FISHING IN KARIMUNJAWA
Are you crazy about fishing or do you just like the chill vibes hanging the fishing rod into the water and dreaming away while waiting for something to bite? Go out on one of Karimunjawa’s fisher boats, find a good spot on the main island or really do something new and go spearfishing with one of our guides.
SPEARFISHING
Besides classic fishing, a lot of men go out spearfishing. Mostly at night, but during the day is also common. They catch fish, lobster, squid, and other sea creatures that go out in the water at night.
Although spearfishing during the night can sound a bit scary, it is easier than during the day. First because fish and other animals go out swimming and you don’t need to dive too deep to find them. Second, the animals won’t be able to see you that easily as it’s dark and you will carry a flashlight. Which will enable you to see them and at the same time blind the fish so it’s even more difficult for them to see you. Spearfishing during the day is less scary, however definitely more challenging. Fish are closer to the reef and easily scarred away as they can spot you. Your freediving skills and general spearfishing skills will need to improve quite a bit before you start catching. Don’t let that stop you though, you need to start somewhere and who knows you might learn fast or get lucky.
KARIMUNJAWA FISHING
Before Karimunjawa became a touristic escape its main source of income was the fishery. Man and their sons go out on the water, either during the day or at night. Depending on the kind of fish or sea animals they are looking for.
Go out on the water during a day of fishing, chilling, swimming, and having lunch. Use the traditional Karimunjawa fishing gear and learn how they do it on our island. If you want to do it a bit more professionally, use sonar equipment and the famous ‘Squid lamps’ and go out at night. Leave around sunset and come back after midnight after a quiet and peaceful night on the sea. Check the prices below for our offers, or click here if you want to rent fishing line only.
